AFTER being grilled (盘问) by angry lawmakers in Washington DC about Toyota’s massive series of recalls and shedding (流出) tears in front of American dealers, Akio Toyoda, the troubled Toyota Motor president, chose to come to China.
“The Chinese market is very important, so I flew here in the hope that my personal expression of an apology and explanation will give customers some relief (安慰),” Toyoda said during a Beijing press conference on March 1. He was here to apologize for what’s happened lately, and flying directly from the US more or less showed his sincerity (诚意).
