Mammoth Cave(猛犸洞穴) is the world’s longest known cave system, almost 400 miles long, and some of it has yet to even be explored (勘探)!
Our family spent two nights there last July, and loved it a lot! While the park itself isn’t free to enter, you’ll need to buy tickets for a cave tour to go into the caves. The tickets sell out fast, so order ahead online or arrive in the morning to purchase tickets for later in the day.
We took two different tours in the morning. Our three kids took the Trog tour, where they had the chance to learn how the cave was formed, what lives in it, who has been there before you and how you can help protect it. It is offered during the summer season.
While the kids travelled, the rest of the family took the Historic tour to get a feel for what it was like for the earliest explores of Mammoth Cave. To get there we must walk down a steep hill.
In the afternoon we all took the New Entrance tour together. It was very amazing. This tour ended with a walk through the “ Frozen Niagara” section of the cave.
The next time we really want to visit the Violet City Lantern Tour… and my older kids are hoping to take Introduction to Caving (aged 10 and up).
We loved our visit to Mammoth Cave—such a super cool place!
