High School Summer Reading List for 2015
We studied reading lists from around the country and found the following books. There’s a good chance you will open one of them this summer.

It is about four women who come from China and their American-born daughters. The four Chinese women have to solve a lot of problems caused by different cultures.

A year in the life of the Permian Panthers high school football team shows the lives of people in a tiny, football-obsessed (足球狂热的) Texas town.
The Poisonwood Bible, by Barbara Kingsolver (1998)
It’s about a Baptist family who travels to the Belgian Congo in 1959, beginning this story told over thirty years in Africa.
Life of Pi, by Yann Martel (2001)
After a ship full of zoo animals sinks at sea, an Indian boy is trapped on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger (孟加拉虎). During the hard period, he suffers a lot. But at last, he arrives at land. The book is the winner of the 2002 Booker Prize.
The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Kidd (2002)
During the civil rights (公民权) movement of the mid-1960s, a young white Southern girl goes on the lam (逃走) with her family’s African-American housekeeper(管家), hoping to solve the mystery of her mother who gave her up.
The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak (2006)
It’s about a young girl who lives in Nazi Germany during World War II. She steals books and shares them with neighbors as well as with a Jew who hides in her family’s basement(地下室).
