A
When I was 7 years old, doctors discovered I had developed a disease called type 1 diabetes (糖尿病). Hearing the news, all I cared about was whether or not I could still eat my favorite food — eggs and sour cream. When I heard the answer was yes, I was happy. I had no idea how much my life was about to change.
Keeping diabetes under control is almost a fulltime job. In my case, I have to check my levels about 6 to 12 times a day. But even with all that monitoring (监测), there's still a chance that my blood sugar levels could swing dangerously high or low. That was when Jackie came to the rescue. She's a dog that's been trained to smell my blood sugar levels. If she thinks they've dropped or risen, she warns me by giving me her paw or even pulling the covers off me if I'm sleeping.
Explaining my condition to other kids hasn't been easy. When I met my best friend Joanna, the first thing she asked me was about the pack I always wear around my waist. It is used to keep my blood sugar in a healthy range. I was worried that she'd think it was strange, so I lied and said it was a phone. When I finally came_clean,_she didn't care. I felt so relieved.
Though I'll probably have to monitor my blood sugar forever, scientists are working on devices that could make it easier. But they need money first. That's why Joanna and I are traveling to California in October to do a 105mile bike ride — we'll be raising money for diabetes awareness and research.
1.The author was happy probably because he/she ______.
A.would become fine soon
B.could eat what he/she likes
C.knew nothing about his/her disease
D.could change his/her way of living
由第一段“When I heard the answer was yes, I was happy”可知,作者听到还能吃最喜欢的食物,就很高兴了。
2.What can we learn about Jackie?
A.She likes waking the author from sleep.
B.She serves as the author's servant at home.
C.She helps monitor the author's blood sugar levels.
D.She often pleases the author by showing her paw.
3.The underlined phrase “came clean” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”.
A.told the truth            B.opened the pack
C.made an apology                D.threw the phone away
