A

For almost as long as there has been TV, there have been cooks on it. Celebrity (名人) chefs with one foot in the kitchen and one on the studio floor became the main phenomenon of British media. And for several decades, the great ambition of many young cooks was to break into TV. However, we're witnessing a change in the special relationship between chefs and celebrities.

Competitive chef contests created a fine dining industry outside London, demanding a house style and then advertising on TV every week. But now, chefs are having to question how far this can be lasting. The real spenders don't seem all that interested in nochoice, blindtasting menus any more. So they are having to reassess what draws the locals in.

The problem is that TV, the medium that created chefs as celebrities, is not bringing new talent to the screen. “While there probably was an oversupply at one point, that market has thinned massively, leaving the big hitters” Melanie Jappy, a TV producer says. “The real reason these guys survive is that they connect on various levels with a very broad range of people. Connectivity is what we always look for in great presenters who can make us feel that they are just talking to us and no one else.”

If you even switch to the Brilliant Young Chef, others will laugh at you. It's almost as if the new generation seems interested in oldfashioned concepts—outstanding food, hospitality (殷勤) and maybe, a good restaurant business that can survive through whatever the economy is about to throw all over us.

I feel confident in predicting that the worlds of restaurant cooking and TV celebrity are separating from each other. There will always be cooks on TV and there will always be brilliant chefs working quietly, but the days of the oldfashioned celebrity chef are numbered.

1What changes do chefs need to make?

AMaking efforts to break into TV.

BReassessing the locals' preference.

CCreating a completely new dining industry.

DDoubting the necessity of being celebrity chefs.

However, we're witnessing a change in... But now, chefs are having to question...they are having to reassess what draws the locals in可知,消费者对毫无选择、盲品菜单不再感兴趣,因此厨师们需要重新评估能够吸引当地人的东西。

2What can be inferred from Melanie's words?

ATraditional media are losing their appeal.

BMost celebrity chefs can't cook good food.

CThere's still a great demand for celebrity chefs.

DConnection with viewers is vital for celebrity chefs.

The real reason these guys survive is that they connect on...can make us feel that they are just talking to us and no one else可知,与观众的联系对于明星厨师的生存很重要。

3What does the author think of oldfashioned celebrity chefs?

AThey have created a great history.

BThey are professional chefs.

CThey will disappear soon.

DThey are irreplaceable.

答案:C
